Something I constantly harp on to other authors: Know when to put a project DOWN and working on something else! Your project is better off on the backburner rather than being worked on when you're not in the right mindset. If you're forcing it because you're not really inspired, it Will show in the finished product. A non-author relatable scenario is listening to an album done by a band right before a breakup or lineup change. You can tell when an artist has mailed it in.

As a self-published author, I also sell my books at craft fairs. I agree with everything you have said and though I didn't learn anything new from your UA-cam post it was great to have my views confirmed by another author who sells at craft fairs and other places.

Your booth/store front decor is SO important! I was at a fair (it’s called Apple Harvest Festival here in Pennsylvania), and there was a booth that I ended up buying a lot of stuff from him but it was only because I struck up a conversation with him. His booth was kind of off the beaten path. He didn’t have a lot of swag/bling in front and I even thought at first that he was closed or wasn’t selling anything. Great tips/advice!!

Very helpful! Re. what you said about it being more expensive to have bookvault send out books via website integration or whatever, I'm wondering how true that might really be. Yes, in terms of direct money spend, but overall? I'm thinking about packing books up and getting them in the post, and the admin stuff you don't have to do when it's done for you - when you take into account the additional time that takes, if you put a nominal value on you time (say minimum wage hourly rate) would that hold true? Of course it depends on how efficient someone is at doing all those things, but is it something you factor in for yourself? And what about orders that come in when you can't fulfil them quickly (eg away for a few days)? I don't know how you'd put a value on having those dealt with more quickly, but I can imagine scenarios where too much of a delay could have a financial impact. Also, the more I think about the £20 set up fee (with 5p change) the more that feels OK, as long as you sell enough books. Once you've sold 100 books, that works out at 20p per book. At 1000 books it's just 2p per book. (I watched this because I've started putting together a large print / large trim size book that makes more sense in landscape and so am looking for an alternative to KDP.)

Love the concept. With my family, we're trying to switch to eat more vegetarian each week, so it'd be great to see the recipes that you're using. And not sure if there's something similar in the UK, but here in the States we've tried a CSA (Community Supportive Agriculture) program. Basically, you and others sign up for a set of time with a local farm and you pick up your produce once a week--you're not quite sure what you're going to get because it all depends on what's available on the farm, but it's a great way to get organic and local produce and forces you to be creative with making meals.

I hope its going good for you. I had ceramic on yop like you whanI was 40 in 1988. They stained, were very sharp, broke some brackets and took a chunk of one tooth when removed.. Hope this doesnt scate you. Now I have metal on top to correct problems that werent addressed with the prior treatment. P.S. you are very pretty. I wish you the best.

Hi Emma, thank you for this video! I have a question, though. When I selected the text of my book and pasted it on the first page, I went ahead and clicked on the + button, but just a small portion of the next passage was pasted. I found myself having to click on the + button on every page to get text on the next one (instead of the rest of text automatically flowing over all the pages). Is there a setting for this I could have missed? Thanks for your help!

How did you create the digital copies of your illustrations? Did you scan them. In what format did you save them? Tiff? Jpeg? Did you place them as a rbg and then allow indesign to change them to cmyk as part of creating a pdf? I'd like to know. Was changing my illustrations from rbg to cmyk before placing them in Indesign. After creating a pdf to upload to Amazon Kdp, the illustrations turned out muddy. All are 300 dpi.

Great lesson for folks like me who are looking to introduce their book into the market at some point soon! I would have the same assumption - discounting the book might increase sales. I think the big box stores hope that we will give into our imposter syndrome! Goodness knows we all have it

Do you use a pen on the trackpad to make it easier?

I've been selling used books on amazon for quite a while and have a good rating. When I finish my graphic memoir, I was going to just add it into my listing with my bought ISBN without really having a seller central account, so I make a bigger amount of money. 60% of royalty is too low from KDP. Have you heard of anyone doing this? I wouldn't register or buy a plan, so maybe I can slide under the radar or ???

I've been considering bookvault for some time now but there hasn't been much news/reviews on them particularly regarding their print quality for children's books, so this was helpful, thank you! How many books can you upload with the £19.95 set up fee? It's not clear online...unless I'm missing something.

If I were initially using IngramSpark and wanted to create a KDP account for the same book with the same ISBN, wouldn't that lead to duplicate book pages appearing on Amazon? I'm asking as I'd really like to get my book on Kindle Unlimited, but it seems like a difficult process right now.

I have self published a children’s board book and trying to list it on Seller Central but it only allows me to add one category. As far as I know KDP allows to choose up to three categories. Do you know how to add multiple categories on Amazon Seller Central? Is it even possible? Thank you so much.
